To generate such reports can take between 2 minutes and over half an hour depending on the reporting period you select (i.e. one year or one day), the number of mailboxes you select (i.e. 100 or 50,000).

- reports on content dynamically collect data through a MAPI connection (a report from the Reports > Mailbox Information group ran on several thousand mailboxes may typically take several hours to complete, for instance).

your software and hardware configuration (local Access database on a Pentium-III, or recent workstation connected to a SQL database stored on a SQL server with 4 GB of RAM...), see related topic.

What can be the impact of PROMODAG Reports on my Exchange environment ?

Abstract:
Question:

What kind of impact might I find if I tried your product in a production environment? Is there anything I should be concerned about?

Answer:

PROMODAG Reports is agentless and you do not need to install anything our your Exchange server(s).

Reports are based on native Exchange Server data sources; most of the information is imported into a separate database (Access or SQL Server formats). Message tracking are read from a shared resources on the server during the import process. This has a minimal impact on performances.

PROMODAG Reports does only need a dynamic access to Exchange servers while generating reports on size or content of mailboxes/public folders. It does not take any more resources from servers than an Outlook client.

Therefore, you should not be concerned about anything when installing PROMODAG Reports in your production environment.

An alert stating ''GetReportData Load report failed'' displays when trying to run a report

Abstract:
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

An alert message stating ''GetReportData Load report failed'' displays when trying to run a report.

<SPAN lang=EN-US style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: #1f497d; FONT-FAMILY: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-themecolor: dark2; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Cordia New'; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-

How is a message processed when sent to a distribution list/group ?

Abstract:
Information on the email address of the distribution group is only available when the message enters the system (edge server). Ideally, we would have a graph with the X axis being the number or months (ago) and the Y axis representing the item count.

This information would be useful when preparing for archiving.

Answer:

The report you are looking for exists; it is called Item Breakdown by Age, and you will find it in the Mailbox Information group of reports. This graphical report displays a histogram of items contained in selected mailboxes and broken down by age. Information is dynamically collected through a MAPI connection to the Exchange server.

You would apply the following settings:

Selection tab: All organization mailboxes, or Mailboxes by, Information Store (where you will then select some particular stores).

Group tab: Level 1 = Information Store.

Folders tab: All folders.

Intervals tab: you may define your own age intervals (see screenshot below).

Filter tab: you may select all types of items, i.e. mail, note, contact... or only some of them.

Content tab: you may want to see whether all selected mailboxes match your criteria, or if some of them are not accessible. This should solve the problem and allow you to connect with a MAPI Profile.

Promodag Reports versions 7 and 8:

If you cannot access the directory while setting up the MAPI connection on PROMODAG Reports (all versions), uninstall and reinstall the Outlook MAPI Service Providers components. This being done, you should be able to open the directory and select a mailbox.

I plan on migrating to a new version of Exchange. What is the impact on PROMODAG Reports ?

Abstract:
Question:

I plan on migrating to a new version of Exchange. What do I do with my current installation of PROMODAG Reports ?

Answer:

The procedure to follow depends on the type of Exchange Server migration you chose.

Situation 1 : you migrate the existing Exchange organization.
In this scenario, you add some new Exchange servers to your existing organization, and then you move your mailboxes to these new servers. Existing mailboxes will keep their identifiers and remain the same, so you will still be able to use your current PROMODAG Reports database if you wish to do so.

You will have to run a full re-import of the directory in order to discover these new servers and moved mailboxes.

You will need to un-register old servers and register new ones.

Old servers might still be present in the database if recipients are still homed on them. You can use the Tools > Clear Directory option to remove orphaned directory objects.

You may need a temporary license to cover additional servers during the migration period. Please contact our Sales Department.

Situation 2 : you create a new Exchange organization.
In this scenario, everything is rebuilt from scratch. Mailbox will be re-created, and will not retain their previous identifiers. Therefore, it will not be possible to use the same PROMODAG Reports database.

If you also planned to upgrade PROMODAG Reports to v. 8, make sure that you upgrade your existing database to v.8 format before the old organization is decommissioned. It will not be possible to convert your old database without the old organization since this conversion process requires directory access.

Your old database, once converted, can always be opened by File > Open Database

How do I obtain .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 ?

Abstract:
Windows 2000, XP and Windows Server 2003 users:

You can either obtain .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 through Windows Update, or the Microsoft Download Center.

Windows Vista users:

.NET Framework 2.0 SP1 is already included in Windows Vista SP1.
