How to assign Exchange servers to a console

Promodag Reports allows you to import data from multiple consoles separately or even simultaneously. A console is a separate installation of Promodag Reports on a dedicated server, pointing to a single SQL Server database.

This type of configuration is particularly suitable for customers with a large Exchange environment, especially if it is hybrid: in this case, it is possible to dedicate one console to Office 365 and the others to one or more groups of Exchange servers.

Please note that a server can only be assigned to a single console.

How to do it?

License servers

The first step is to verify that the servers are selected in the Help > License window. This window has two tabs if your environment is hybrid, and only one in other cases: pure on-premises Exchange or pure Office 365. This information is common to all consoles.

Determine the future assignment of servers

The second step is to determine which server or group of servers will be assigned to which console. If you have a large Office 365 tenant (more than 5,000 mailboxes), it is recommended that you assign Office 365 alone to one console. If you have 15 Exchange servers hosted in a data center in Europe and another 15 in North America, it is best to assign them by geographic group to two separate consoles.

Assign servers to each console

The third step is to select the servers in the import options for each console:

  • File > Import Message Tracking Data, for traffic data
  • File > Import Storage Size, for storage reports
  • File > Import IIS Data, for OWA and ActiveSync reports, if applicable (these reports are only available for on-premises Exchange).

Select each server before moving them to the right side of the window (Selected Servers) using the arrow buttons. Click Apply to confirm, then Cancel to exit the window without starting an unnecessary import.

Create or modify import batches

The final step is to apply or propagate these changes to the import batches.

Go to Tools > Task Automation to create or modify your import batch.

  • To create it, click Create. Add the various import options: message tracking data, storage size, IIS data if applicable.
  • To edit it, select it from the list of batch files and click Edit.

In both cases, make sure that the radio button Process pre-selected servers for import is selected.

Once this setting is complete, each console will process only its assigned server group.
